Carol Deen is an educator and public speaker, providing training in communications and human relations to her clients who are major companies and universities, as well as individuals. Carol is an officer and director of the Deen Veterinary Clinic in Wills Point. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Citizens National Bank of Wills Point and Grand Saline.

She was in the first class of women to attend Texas A&M University. After earning a bachelor of arts degree from Texas A&M in 1967, she was admitted to graduate school there, earning M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. While working on advanced degrees, she began her career as an educator, teaching for four years in the Texas A&M University Department of English.

Carol is married to Dr. Travis Deen, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in small animal and equine medicine and surgery. He is board Certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners They have three daughters. Tess is a Texas A&M graduate who teaches in Lubbock. Dana is a graduate of Texas A&M and the University of Tulsa School of Law, with a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from SMU. Andrea her youngest daughter is attending UT Tyler.

Carol dedicates a great deal of time to community and public service activities. She has been a member of the American Cancer Society since the early 80's, serving as President in 1990-1991. She has also led numerous major fund-raising events for this group.

She has served on the Fred M. Hale School of Business Advisory Council of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. Carol also serves on the board of directors of the Van Zandt County Community Theater. Both she and Travis serve on the board of directors of the Van Zandt County Historical Commission.

Carol is actively involved in Rotary on both the club and district levels. Carol served as Governor's Group Representative for three district governors. In 1992-1993 she served on the District Conference Committee. In 1993-1994 she served on the District Club Extension Committee; in 1994-1995 she served on the Group Study Exchange Committee, and during May and June of 1994 she led the Group Study Exchange team from District 5830 to France. She was Chairman of Club Extension for D. G. Charlie Whiteside.

Carol has actively participated in every district meeting since the District Conference in 1992-1993. She speaks regularly at Rotary club meetings around the district and has spoken at numerous meetings in District 5810. In 1992, she was invited to speak at a District 5810 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (Camp RYLA) on the Development of Leadership.

During the Rotary year 1992-1993, she was named by Governor Jim Fitzgerald as the R.I. Special Representative to organize the Rotary Club of Canton. She was one of the first women ever to hold this title. The club was chartered on April 20, 1993. Carol went on to serve as Charter President from April to July, and then as President the following year.

Both Carol and Travis are Paul Harris Fellows and Benefactors of the Rotary Foundation.
