Winning Rotaractors provide sustainable water and sanitation facilities

Congratulations to the Rotaract Club of H.R. College in Mumbai, India, international winner of the 2014 Rotaract Outstanding Project Award. Club members engaged thousands of community members and volunteers in efforts to raise funds and build awareness for their project to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facilities in Kumbharwadi, a drought-prone village near Mumbai. To ensure the project’s sustainability, club members collaborated with the Watershed Organization Trust to select the village, where they are digging wells and installing toilets. Village leaders and residents were involved in planning and funding the projects and are being trained to maintain the facilities.

Taking action

Young leaders take the stage at Presidential New Generations conference

More than 1,600 Rotarians and young leaders from 29 countries gathered in March in Rosario, Argentina, for the third of Rotary International President Ron Burton’s New Generations Conferences. Activities emphasized the power of young people as partners in Rotary service. Read the inspiring speech from 9-year old Lucia Gomez Garcia about how “you are never too young to change the world.”

Check out Rotary Voices for more stories about young leaders working to change the world, from Rotaractors improving health in Uganda to elementary school students promoting cross-cultural exchange between India and the United States.

Interactors and Rotaractors energize Rotary’s global efforts to end polio

In the past nine months, Interact and Rotaract clubs have raised more than $50,000 to end polio worldwide. With creative initiatives like the This Close campaign and fundraisers like 5K runs, curry nights, purple pinkie challenges, themed parties, scavenger hunts, and more, young leaders have raised awareness while raising funds to End Polio Now. Taken together, these efforts have a positive impact worldwide. The World Health Organization recently declared its Southeast Asia region polio free, and we are stepping up efforts to end this disease. Find out how you can become a polio eradication advocate in your school, university, or community.

Make sure you’re connected

Our best line of communication to Rotaractors and Interactors is through club presidents and club advisers. Keep Rotary’s network strong by reporting 2014-15 presidents and advisers before 30 June. Current Rotaract presidents can report presidents-elect through their My Rotary accounts. Incoming presidents and advisers can also use our online Interact and Rotaract club contact forms to report their information by 30 June.
