November is a time for reflection and gratitude — and in Rotary, it’s also a time to celebrate The Rotary Foundation, the heart of our good works around the world. Every clean water well, every polio vaccine, every scholarship, and every peace initiative begins with your generosity to the Foundation.
Last year, District 5830 achieved a record-setting $452,305 in giving, and this year, our goal is to surpass $500,000. If each Rotarian in our district gives $40 per month through June, we will exceed our target and continue to lead Zones 30–31 in per capita giving.
Please visit my.rotary.org/donate to set up recurring giving and explore Rotary’s Areas of Focus — from promoting peace to protecting the environment. Every contribution brings hope to communities in need.
Rotaract is Growing in East Texas!
One of the most exciting developments this fall has been the energy and enthusiasm among our young leaders.
We’re thrilled to celebrate the growth of the Rotaract Club at Texas A&M University – Texarkana and the chartering of the University of Texas at Tyler Rotaract Club!
Special thanks to Dr. Brian Matthews, our District 5830 Rotaract Committee Chairman, for his leadership and support, and congratulations to Rotaract President Rikia Johnson of TAMUT and President Madison Adams of UT Tyler Rotaract for their commitment to expanding Rotary’s reach among college students. These outstanding young leaders are shaping the future of Rotary — serving with purpose, energy, and innovation
October Club Visits – United for Good Across District 5830
October was a month filled with fellowship, inspiration, and incredible service stories from across the district. Each visit reminded me why our theme, United for Good, truly captures the spirit of 5830.
🔹 Kilgore Rotary – A vibrant club committed to local impact and international reach. Their community engagement and youth programs are strong, and their camaraderie reflects true Rotary spirit. Stay tuned for the Kilgore College Rotaract Club!
🔹 Bullard Rotary – Small but mighty! Bullard’s club members are leading with heart — their hands-on projects and visible presence in the community are making a real difference. Their annual golf tournament was a huge success and will help fund construction of their Rotary Pickleball Court.
🔹 Henderson Rotary – Celebrating 70 years of service this month! Henderson continues to thrive, thanks to its strong community roots, a robust Student of the Month program, and innovative approaches to member engagement and outreach. Their leadership and longevity are a testament to Rotary values in action.
🔹 Gilmer Rotary – Now in its 100th year of service, Gilmer Rotary continues to build on a proud legacy. Their Rotary Pavilion at the Yamboree grounds stands as a beautiful symbol of a century of impact and fellowship in Upshur County. Congratulations to the club for their continued dedication to service and community pride.
🔹 Carthage Rotary – The home club of DGND Michael Newman, the Carthage club continues to lead with innovation and a deep commitment to Rotary’s values. Their focus on youth and community partnerships shines bright, and I left encouraged by their vision for the year ahead.
Each club visit reminds me that while our communities may differ in size and focus, we are all bound by the same purpose: to serve, to connect, and to make lasting change.
In Closing
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, I am deeply grateful for each of you — for your service, your generosity, and your heart for others. Together, we are living Rotary’s mission and truly uniting for good.
