Message from DG Jack
Ours is the opportunity to empower Rotarians to change our World.

Remember that October is Economic and Community Development Month and October 5th -11th is Rotary Alumni Reconnect Week and October 24th is World Polio Day. That’s a lot for one month, but it underscores what we can do to change lives when we come together in friendship, fellowship, and service.

Ava and I have now seen over ½ of our District Clubs. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our vision of Rotary, a combination of old and new, where we continue to honor traditions of Perfect Attendance yet embrace E-Clubs and Satellite Clubs and other new models of Rotarians coming together to open opportunities.

With the slow recovery from the pandemic it becomes more important to meet either virtually or safely in person, emphasizing masks and social distancing. It is incumbent on each of us to give our guidance to club, district, and zone leadership to help us all stay on track demonstrating how Rotary Opens Opportunities during an unprecedented time.

We have been touched by the generosity and tireless endeavors of our District Rotarians to improve the lives of others, especially when faced with the difficulties of the pandemic. Our prayers continue to be with those adversely affected.

Economic and Community Development Month

Nearly 800 million people live on less than $1.90 a day. Rotary members are passionate about providing sustainable solutions to poverty.

Congratulation DGND Karen Maines
Congratulations to Karen Maines, Past President of the Longview-Greggton Rotary Club who has been selected by the District 5830 Nominating Committee as District Governor Nominee Designate.  She has been selected to serve during the 2023-24 Rotary Year.

COVID Triage Facility Peten’, Guatemala

This is a celebratory announcement to all who so generously supported the establishing of a Triage Facility at the San Benito Hospital’ National’ in the Peten’, Guatemala.  As you remember, we were contacted by the Tikal’ Rotary Club in late May/early June, with their critical need to establish a screening facility outside their hospital, to screen patients and visitors for COVID prior to their entering the hospital building.  They were using a broken down army surplus tent; it was all they had.   By early July, with your clubs and individuals leading the charge, $10,000 was raised and sent to the Tikal’ Rotary Club.  They immediately got busy, using what they had quickly available, a shipping container; and put together what you see in the attached pictures.  It is a beautiful facility, very functional, sporting a BIG Rotary Wheel!!!  They are now working on refurbishing the dilapidated restroom facilities, also outside the hospital.

THANKS for what you have done to meet the humanitarian needs of these hard working people of Northern Guatemala!

Plan Ahead For World Polio Day
World Polio Day on October 24, 2020

From virtual 5k runs to online galas, Rotary clubs are coming up with creative ways to promote polio eradication and celebrate World Polio Day on 24 October. To plan ahead for World Polio Day, use the resources and End Polio Now toolkit.

And remember, World Polio Day is just one day that will inspire Rotarians to get involved with The Rotary Foundation.
