September is Basic Education and Literacy Month in Rotary. This observance reminds us that one of the most powerful gifts we can offer the world is the ability to read, write, and learn. Education is the foundation of opportunity, and our work in this area has the potential to transform lives and unlock possibilities for generations to come.
As Rotarians, we know service takes many forms. Sometimes, it provides clean water; other times, it awards scholarships or supplies books; often, it shows up in our communities with open hands and willing hearts.
Congratulations to Michael Newman, Past President 2018-2019 Rowlett RC & 2023-2024 Carthage RC, who has been selected by the District 5830 Nominating Committee as District Governor Nominee Designate. He has been selected to serve as D-5830 District Governor during the 2028-2029 Rotary Year.
Pursuant to the District’s Bylaws, specifically Article II – District 5830 Committees, the Nomination of Michael Newman will be held until September 30, 2025 to permit any challenges or re-nominations and will thereafter become final at midnight on September 30, 2025.
It is time to celebrate you and your clubs for an outstanding 2024-25 Rotary Year at the District 5830 Conference at the Museum of Red River in Idabel, OK!
Mark your calendar, register now and reserve your cabin or room for a weekend in Idabel Oklahoma.
During the conference we will be celebrating the success of individual Rotarians and their clubs with the Rotarian of the Year, Club of the Year, Club Excellent Awards and other recognitions.
The District’s Disaster Relief Committee is continuing its formation. Our purpose is clear: to help Rotarians be better prepared for disasters, to work alongside local and state agencies when needed, and to provide the necessary funds, supplies, and support to alleviate human suffering after disasters.
As Public Image Director, I’m excited to help our clubs leverage September’s emphasis on Basic Education and Literacy to amplify Rotary International’s mission on all public-facing platforms. Basic Education and Literacy is not only a core service priority but also a powerful storytelling lens that can showcase Rotary’s impact, engage communities, and attract new supporters.
