Dear Fellow Rotarians of District 5830,
August is Membership and New Club Development Month, and what better time to reflect on the heartbeat of Rotary—our members. Every handshake, every project, every new idea starts with you. Membership isn’t just about numbers—it’s about impact.
This month’s issue of Rotary magazine captures that spirit beautifully, highlighting how “growing Rotary” means expanding our reach, deepening our service, and welcoming the energy of new voices. I encourage you to explore the inspiring stories—from adaptive diving to mental health initiatives and economic empowerment. Read the magazine here: Rotary – August 2025
Membership Growth Campaign – Invite the Future Rotarian
Thanks to the leadership of IPDG Jeff Johnston and the commitment of every Rotarian across District 5830, we achieved stellar growth last year—from 1,353 to 1,494 members—earning recognition from Rotary Zone 31. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Bring a guest to your next meeting or event. Share Rotary with a friend, family member, or colleague. Let’s continue to build vibrant, inclusive clubs across our region.
Special Recognition: Longview Greggton & Heartisans
Join me in recognizing Assistant Governor Donna Koerner and the Rotary Club of Longview Greggton for their outstanding service project at Heartisans Marketplace. This organization, supported through their rodeo fundraiser, equips women with job skills and life training. Their next project will focus on the Women’s Health Center, another vital community partner. This is “Service Above Self” in action.
Critical Blood Shortage in East Texas
Carter BloodCare has declared a critical shortage of blood across East Texas. “Critical” means less than a one-day supply—and lives are at risk.
Assistant Governor Bill Martin is leading a grassroots effort to support recurring mobile donation events. Business cards are being printed with the Four-Way Test and a QR code that links to nearby donation opportunities. To order cards or posters, contact AG Bill or me directly.

Texas Flood Relief Update – District 5840
Our sister district, 5840, was hit hard by the 4th of July flooding. Recovery efforts are ongoing and will require long-term support.
Clubs are encouraged to donate to their Foundation at: https://rotary5840.org/donate/district-5840-disaster-relief/

I commend the Rotary Club of South Tyler and others who are leading the charge with other clubs by sponsoring a Disaster Relief Trailer to support current and future recovery missions. For details, contact South Tyler President Alex Fruth.
If you're interested in joining our District 5830 Disaster Relief Committee, please reach out to Disaster Relief Chair Ben Patterson for information on how you can help.
Let’s show our Rotary family that District 5830 stands ready when the call comes.
Save the Date: District Conference in Idabel – September 13, 2025
As IPDG Jeff Johnston has emphasized herein, our annual District Conference will be held Saturday, September 13, in Idabel, Oklahoma.
This will be a moment to reflect on our accomplishments, vote on important initiatives (including the proposed Endowment Fund policy amendment), and celebrate our future. Clubs are encouraged to send voting representatives and provide feedback during the 45-day review period.
Let’s make it a powerful weekend of Rotary fellowship and forward thinking.
