March 2018
I want to congratulate the Athens RC, President Anthony Chiles, and District Foundation Chair PDG Carroll Greenwaldt for a wonderful Foundation Banquet celebration! We heard a very inspiring message from Past RI Director Brad Howard, and we celebrated our club giving, Paul Harris Fellows and Major Donors. Carroll also gave an excellent presentation on the various international projects going on in Guatemala and Honduras. The meal, entertainment, and fellowship was excellent as usual!

I am excited to report that District 5830 had an excellent turnout for Lone Star PETS in Dallas this past weekend. 40 President Elects and Nominees joined with District leaders and nine other Districts in preparation for the next Rotary year, 2018-2019. DGE Judy Guthrie provided the district training and attendees heard from numerous RI leaders including Past RI Presidents Rick King and Ron Burton and Past RI Vice President Jennifer Jones. They each challenged the incoming PE’s to “Be the Inspiration” and lead their clubs in service, fellowship and supporting the RI Foundation.

The next training opportunity will be APRIL 21st in Mt. Pleasant at North East Texas Community College for the District Assembly. All club officers and other interested members are strongly encouraged to attend. Registration will be available on the District 5830 website on or before March 12, 2018.
The month of March focuses on Water and Sanitation. This is one of the six areas of focus for Rotary. Our District has had several opportunities to support large projects to improve the quality of water and sanitation in schools in Guatemala and Honduras. The scope of these projects will provide restroom facilities for over 70 schools in these two countries. This will greatly increase the ability for children to attend school and get their education. These are just some examples of your past support of the Rotary Foundation being put to good use to Make a Difference! I want to continue to encourage every club to plan for opportunities to support and be involved in international project.

As we look to the last third of the 2017-2018 Rotary year, I challenge each club to be intentional in your support of the Rotary Foundation. Our District goal is to exceed $100 per capita in giving to the Annual Share Fund. Club Presidents and Club Foundation Chairs can assist individuals and clubs in giving to the Rotary Foundation. Myself and PDG Carroll Greenwaldt, our District Foundation Chair, can assist as well. Please continue to support Polio Plus as we seek to reach zero. There have only been three new cases in 2018 after 22 in all of 2017.We truly are this close //.

Finally, I want to continue to challenge every club to pursue achievement of the Rotary Citation. There is still time to accomplish the required goals and get your information input into Rotary Club Central. Our District Administrator, Shirley Pinnix-Evans, will gladly assist any club with RCC. This is a great way to recognize your club for all the great service they are doing.
