Are you a Business or Professional leader in your community, seeking to make a difference in the world around you?

Rotarians are passionate people driven by the ideal of service. As a part of Rotary, you get to network with and give back to communities around the globe. District 5830 is made up of 46 clubs and approximately 1400 members across NE Texas, SE Oklahoma, and SW Arkansas.

When I began preparing my Official Visit presentation, I discovered something interesting. There isn't an operations manual that tells District Governors exactly what to cover during club visits. As I organized my thoughts, I realized one word kept appearing over and over again: connection. Whether it was connect, connecting, or connection, it found its way onto slide after slide.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that connection is at the heart of Rotary.

Congratulations to Roy Shockey who was selected by the District 5830 Nominating Committee as District Governor Nominee Designate. He will serve as D-5830 District Governor during the 2029-2030 Rotary Year.

DGND Roy is the current President of Mineola Rotary Club. Roy has served as Mineola Club President for 4 years.

Pursuant to the District’s Bylaws, specifically Article II – District 5830 Committees, the nomination of Roy Shockey will be held until September 9, 2026, to permit any challenges or re-nominations and will thereafter become final at midnight on September 9, 2026.

Hello to the Champion Rotarians of District 5830!

You will see more about this elsewhere in this month’s newsletter, but each of you needs to congratulate yourselves and your fellow club members on the further increase in Rotary Foundation Giving which occurred during 2025-2026. All of us should be proud!  We have reason to celebrate!

Now, however, we also need to turn our attention to the use of the grant funds from our District.

Our district has a maximum district grant amount of $51,221.  Your club’s share is shown on Club Runner under Forms.

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is YOUR opportunity to get started learning more about Rotary!!

What is the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)?
*RLI is a series of three fast-paced, interactive courses to enhance a Rotary member’s leadership skills and increase their knowledge base of Rotary.
  1. *Courses are fun, topical and geared toward active business and professional persons who want to be more effective leaders in their vocations, clubs or districts.
August is Rotary’s Membership and New Club Development Month, and it gives us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what truly makes Rotary extraordinary.

As your District 5830 Foundation Chairman, I have the privilege of witnessing the remarkable generosity of our Rotarians. I see the compassion behind every gift to The Rotary Foundation, the commitment behind every service project, and the friendships that make Rotary feel like family. For all of this, I simply want to say thank you.
The purpose of the Rotary Global Scholarship program is to further international understanding and peaceful relations among people of different races, nationalities, ethnicities, and religions while pursuing an approved program of graduate study at an institution of higher education in a foreign country. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homeland to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host countries.
Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession and enhance your Rotary experience. They are open to Rotarians, family members, and program participants and alumni.

I know many of you are already members of one or more fellowships. I’m a member of the wine fellowship and the music fellowship. I have enjoyed connecting with other members at RI conventions and by getting their newsletters.
