William Carroll Greenwaldt (Mary)

Carroll has been a Rotarian for 26 years, with 25 years, Perfect Attendance.  He is a PHF+7 and a Sustaining Member of TRF.  He served the Longview South Rotary Club as Secretary/Treasurer and later as President (1984-85).  The club excelled in membership growth, growing from 38-87, and raised funds and donated a 15-passenger van to a local agency that served special needs individuals.  Moving to the Rotary Club of Longview, TX, he led each of the Club’s Directorships and served as President (2009-2010).  His club has received the Presidential Citation and was recently recognized as the Outstanding Club in District 5830 for 4 consecutive years.  He served on a team from the three Longview Rotary Clubs that culminated in building a Rotary Habitat for Humanity House.  He helped lead a team that established a backpack program in the Longview Independent School District that has fed over 400 children each weekend for the past four school years, serving all 13 campuses in the District.  He was honored by his club as Rotarian of the Year in 2011.
Carroll has led two Rotary Teams to Guatemala to help in medical clinics, deliver school supplies, and distribute parasite-eradicating medicines to children in underserved, indigenous population areas.  He helped lead the development of a project that became a Rotary Foundation District Matching Grant.  That initiative has treated 4-million Guatemalan children from parasites, across the entire country in 2012.  He is leading development of a Global Grant that will culminate in delivering $100,000 of needed obstetrical/surgical instruments and equipment to a Hospital in an underserved region in northern Guatemala.  Carroll is the Immediate Past District Governor of District 5830. 
Born in Central Texas, Carroll attended Southern Methodist University and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1975.  He later earned a MBA from Stephen F. Austin University.  He has been employed by Eastman Chemical Company in Longview, TX, for 40 years, serving in a variety of leadership positions.  He is currently the Director of Utilities, a Cogeneration Power Generating Plant, and Environmental Services at Eastman.
Active in his community, Carroll has served as a Board member of the Greater Longview United Way and as President of the Founding Board of Artsview Children’s Theater in Longview.  In Scouting, he has been a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Asst. Scoutmaster, and former District Chairman of a District serving over 2000 scouts, on the Executive Board, and now on the Advisory Board of the East Texas Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.   He and his wife are active in First United Methodist Church of Longview, where he has served as Sunday school teacher, youth volunteer, Administrative Council Chair, and numerous other positions.  Carroll has served as the District Lay Leader of the North District of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. 
Carroll is married to Mary Greenwaldt, who is a Paul Harris Fellow +2.   He and Mary are Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Society members, and Benefactors, Level 2.   Mary, a life-long educator, is recently retired as the Director of The School for Little Children at First United Methodist Church for 20 years, a preschool with over 250 children and 70+ teachers.  They have three adult children and seven grandchildren, ages 10 months to 9 years old.
