Two Months In… and Already So Much Impact!Where did the time go? Somehow, we are already two months into our Rotary year!
One of the greatest joys of serving as your District Governor has been visiting your clubs. I have been inspired by the creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment I have seen throughout District 5830. I have seen clubs doing big things and small things that make a very real difference. And, perhaps most importantly, I have seen the power of Rotarians connecting with one another, with their communities, and with opportunities to make a difference.
I recently returned from District Governor Training in New Orleans and Zone Institute, and I came home energized all over again. The learning was incredible, but the connections and inspiration were just as valuable. Being surrounded by Rotary leaders from across our region and Rotary International President Elect Larry Lunsford was a wonderful reminder that while our clubs may be different, we share the same commitment to Service Above Self.
September: Basic Education and Literacy
September is Basic Education and Literacy Month, giving us an opportunity to focus on something fundamental to creating lasting change. Literacy opens doors. Education creates opportunities. And when children and adults have the tools to learn, they have greater opportunities to build stronger, healthier, more successful lives.
I encourage each club to consider how you can make an impact in this area. Maybe it is supporting a local school, providing books, mentoring a student, helping with literacy programs, or finding a creative project that addresses an educational need in your community.
You don't have to reinvent the wheel. Look around your own community. What is the need? What can Rotary do? And who can we partner with to make the impact even greater?
And October Is Just Around the Corner!
While we are focusing on education and literacy this month, don't forget to look ahead to World Polio Day on October 24.
We are this close to eradicating polio! Rotary has been at the heart of that effort for decades. Now is the time to start planning your club's World Polio Day activity, fundraiser, awareness campaign, or service project.
Let's make October a month when District 5830 reminds our communities that Rotary is still committed to making polio history.
Two months down. Ten to go.
And if these first two months are any indication, this is going to be an incredible year. Thank you for welcoming me into your clubs, sharing your stories, and allowing me to see firsthand the amazing work happening across District 5830.
