Dear Rotary District 5830 Members,

I hope this message finds you well and energized for a busy and impactful October! As your Public Image Director, I’m excited to share key opportunities this month that can amplify our shared mission: eradicating polio worldwide and strengthening our communities through Economic and Community Development initiatives.World Polio Day falls on October 24, and this is our chance to illuminate Rotary’s unwavering commitment to a polio-free world. I encourage each club to align its activities and fundraising with Rotary International’s Polio Eradication Initiative.

Does your Club host a World Polio Day event or that highlights the latest progress, the remaining needs, and Rotary’s role in ending polio, all while raising funds for RI? If so, please spread the word and let all Rotarians across the District know about what you have planned, and invite them to join you in your endeavors. Use Rotary-branded materials and a consistent message across all channels—social media, newsletters, club websites, and community partners. If possible, you can feature a real, local connection by sharing a story or testimonial from a polio survivor or a local health partner to personalize the global effort, and promote any matching donation opportunities when available with clear calls to action to give to The Rotary Foundation.

October is also Economic and Community Development Month, which provides an excellent backdrop to showcase how Rotary strengthens communities while broadening our reach beyond current members.  Inviting the community to participate in fundraisers or service projects, or collaborating your fundraisers with local businesses is a great way to extend Rotary's message and mission to prospective members, all while demonstrating the impact that Rotary can have on the local community by bringing people together for fun and fellowship. Messaging should emphasize inclusion by inviting prospective Rotarians, civic leaders, and service-minded neighbors to learn what Rotary is all about. It’s important to highlight donation pathways to The Rotary Foundation and explain how funds are used to improve lives—locally and globally. Leverage public image channels—social media, press releases, and local media—to broadcast opportunities for involvement, including volunteer roles and donation options.  Clubs will be more successful if they publicly invite district Rotarians to participate in events to boost turnout and donations, while also inviting non-Rotarian community members who are curious about Rotary. All in all, October represents a pivotal month for donor engagement and member recruitment. A strong, cohesive message across all clubs helps build momentum and trust with prospective members and community partners.

In terms of best practices for District 5830 Public Image, consistency is key. Encourage cross-club collaboration for larger events, joint fundraising drives, and coordinated public service announcements.  Ensure event information is easily accessible on the District 5830 website and on your individual social media outlets, with clear instructions for joining events and contributing.

Thank you for your dedication to both local service and global health. October is a fantastic opportunity to maximize giving, inspire growth, and strengthen Rotary’s public image in District 5830. Together, we can make a meaningful difference—polio eradication on a global scale and vibrant, engaged communities here at home.

Warm regards,
